So this year on holiday, I once again managed to fit in 10 books and explored the worlds of many authors and characters. All books this year were YA Fiction and each book was a different author!
This is an achievement as many of you know I have been in a complete reading slump since February and I was lucky to read one book per month. This holiday motivated me and here are short reviews giving you all a taste of some of these fantastic books.
Leah on the Off Beat
Becky Albertelli
★★★★
First up is the continuation of Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda and I went in with high hopes and was not disappointed. We get to meet our favourite characters over again but this time in the perspective of Leah who I always found quite mysterious. This was filled with humour, honesty and heartbreaking scenes where I felt truly emotional. A fantastic read by an amazing author.
Open Road Summer
Emery Lord
★★★★
A book that I picked up the day before I left for the cruise. Emery Lord is an author who I really enjoy reading and I am always interested to see what she comes up with. This story follows the life of Reagan O'Neill who I would describe as a troubled young adult. She goes on tour with her Country Pop Star best friend Dee and her life is interrupted by various characters. This was fantastic. The characters were well developed and the story was so engaging and I couldn't put it down!
The Manifesto On How To Be Interesting
Holly Bourne
★★★★★
By now you should know, I love a bit of Holly Bourne and this is a book that has been on my to be read for a while and it was finally time to explore the life of Bree, A high schooler who is told to be more interesting. This has romance, drama and extremely fake bitches. This was one of my favourites of the week and again shows how Bourne is a talented writer. You need to read this!
Every Day
David Levithan
★★★★★
This one I read because of all the movie trailers that I have seen in the recent weeks. This looked different and brought excitement to the usual YA Fiction Romances I have read over the years. This follows the story of A and how they change bodies every day and follows their romance with a girl who A finds while in the body of a teenage boy! This has parties, excitement and I just found it really interesting how some had actually came up with idea. Amazing.
Trouble
Non Pratt
★★★★
I have seen Non Pratt's books on the shelves of Waterstones multiple times when I have been in store and thought it was finally time for me to try and read one of her books. I wasn't disappointed. This shows the perspective of teens Hannah who is pregnant and Aaron who is the new kid on the block. There were so many twists in this novel and it was always kept exciting. This is another fantastic read.
The Sun is Also a Star
Nicola Yoon
★★★
I have had this on my TBR since It was published and I have so many mixed feelings about it. This follows the perspectives of illegal immigrant Natasha and Top Student in an asian family Daniel. This book follows how the two meet and shares the heartbreaking story of those who are deported from America. This was so sad and I did enjoy, however at times, I just couldn't get into the format and I needed to be more engaged and excited. I still think this is a great YA Read.
Flawed
Cecelia Ahern
★★★
Flawed is one of these novels which you will either love or hate and for me, I was definitely in the middle. I loved our main character Celestine and I loved the thought behind it but at times I just didn't click with the book and I lost interest. However, I am convinced that I need to continue this series and see what happens in the sequel called Perfect!
The Hate U Give
★★★★★
Another book which you see showcased everywhere and I finally had the chance to read this epic YA Novel. We follow Starr through the problems found within the black community such as gang violence and the main issue White Police shooting Black innocent teens. This was gut wrenching and I had to complete this novel. It was fantastic and there was never a moment where I felt defeated as I was always engaged. This is such an important read and I recommend everyone reads this.
The Art of Being Normal
Lisa Williamson
★★★★★
Third time I have read this novel and still I cried. This is just amazing and I felt even more engaged this time. David and Leo are two of my favourite characters from the YA fiction world. Lisa Williamson is so talented and I defiantly think that everyone should give this a go. This is LGBT+ and focuses on transgender teens as David wants to become a girl. Really good and still my favourite book to this day.
One of Us is Lying
Karen M McManus
★★★★★
I had to buy a kindle book as I ran out of physical copies. My friend was currently reading this novel and I decided to join her and do a little buddy read. I am so glad I made this decision as this was such a good YA thriller. We follow the lives of 5 high school students and how in their detention one of the 5 are murdered. This is exciting and I couldn't put it down. Fantastic YA Fiction.
So, My favourite read after much consideration is The Manifesto On How To Be Interesting by Holly Bourne as it was just the YA Fiction that I love to read. I loved the plot and I love the writing style of Holly Bourne. This was fantastic. Over this time I managed to read 3746 pages from 10 brilliant Ya Novels which I recommend to you all.
Thanks for Reading Today!
