The January Book Review

Wow! I've had an amazing start to my year and my reading skills have definitely improved since last year. So in this blog, I'm just going to give an overview of all the books I have completed this month and my ratings out of 5 stars. Further Reviews can be found on my GoodReads.

I Started the month off with I Know You Well by Nina LaCour and David Leviathan.
The Book follows the life of our two main characters Mark and Kate both following the Boy and Girls of their dreams. Mark wants to be in a relationship with his Best Friend Ryan while Kate is trying to pick up her nerves to talk to the girl she has learned so much about.
This had such a fun storyline and the plot was fantastic.
I gave this 4 Stars and I really did enjoy the plot but I just needed MORE!
A great start to 2017!

I then moved on to an autobiography! Buffering by Hannah Hart was my choice and it gave me
an overview of the life of a youtube and also her personal life when she was young!
This was good but I was so confused by the order of the chapters and itikinda just made me not want to continue!!!
But, I did! Her story was empowering and Iespect her as a person.
This gained 3 Stars for me and was an overall, great read.

Now, onto a book I, have been dying to read for a while!
Replica by Lauren Oliver is a YA Science Fiction Novel that follows
the life of Gemma and Lyra. This book can be read both ways by
turning it upside down which for me was an amazing element.
I decided to read it by alternating chapters which as you can see in the photo,
required me to use a lot of post it notes!
This was just an amazing read! I thought I was going to hate it
due to it being Sci-Fi but this has proved me wrong. The writing
technique was amazing and the whole idea was well thought out
and I cannot wait for the sequel.
This is my first 5 Star book of the year and has set the standards high!

Book 4 of 2017 was The Color Purple by Alice Walker which has won many
book awards all around the world! It takes us back to the life of a Women who
is a slave to a white master in the USA.
It gave us insights of what it was like for the slaves in those days and it was
a really emotional book. This was written in a unique way and I don't think I
would change it at all. The main character Celie is an inspiration and her story
has made me realise that really, my life isn't that bad!
I gave this 4 Stars and it is a really inspirational book!

My Final read of January was A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard.
This is a story which focuses on Steffi, a girl who is selective mute and her
romantic partner Rhys who is deaf. This focuses on the difficulties of both of the characters and is actually really quite inspiring as it shows some of the problems faced by people with these problems.
I gave this book 5 Stars as it was very empowering and I loved the entire story.

So this month, I am pleased to say that I read a total of 5 books, which works out to be 1623 pages which I feel is pretty good for the first month of the year! I recommend them all but especially Replica and A Quiet Kind of Thunder.

Let's see what Febuary brings...
