I know what anyone reading this is thinking! Why the heck is he talking children's books!!!
Well, currently I am an Early Education student and have been put in a nursery to work with the children. During this time, it's allowed me to remember some of the books that I read as a child and also to see some of these new books which the children love when I do a book based activity.
So I am going to start off with some of the classics that I read in my early days with my mum before I went to sleep every night and yes I do mean every night as she would always insist it happened and I am glad she did this as really it's allowed me to grow up with fantastic memories but has also turned me into an avid reader.
' Where's My Teddy ' by Jez Alborough is a book which I adored when I was younger and would always read at least twice a week. I don't know what it is about this book but it's probably because when I was younger I was attached to my own teddy bear and wouldn't go anywhere without him. I read this one to the nursery the other day and they loved it!
Who could forget these classics! The Spot books were books that I used to have a real special connection too. I always urged my parents to read them and it's probably because I loved the spot television program. These books always filled me with excitement and imagination.
It doesn't get any more classic without mentioning the Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr. This was a book that always takes me back to primary school and it was definitely one of my personal favourites. I mean who doesn't love a good book where a usually ferocious animal comes for tea!
Now it's time look at some books that I've recently become very attached too due to planning activities around them in my placement! Here a few of my favourites:
The Gruffalo obviously has to make this list! Julia Donalson is a Godsend in the nursery world.
I really like how this book gives the children plenty of vocabularies! I planned a whole day around the Gruffalo and the children loved it! So to anyone who is in the profession or students,
this is a great book.
Another book by Julia Donaldson which the children in my nursery adore. I, of course, love that there is a giraffe in this book but besides that, the book teaches the children good manners and sends good messages. For anyone who hasn't read this, it follows the day of a giant who wants to be the Smartest giant but he ends up giving away all he has gained to his friends or those in need. I am currently planning activities for this at the moment and may blog about them later in the year.
Would it be a Children's book blog without this Eric Carle Classic? I love this book!!! It has given me some amazing memories as it was my first lesson I had planned in my nursery! This book allows children to see that all individuals are different as everyone will grow up at different times and everyone is equal. Children love the interaction features of this book especially the page with all the different foods. Children still ask me to read this when I am!
So for any readers, this might be a throwback for you all as it was for me!
Happy Reading All!
