During February, I read Lisa Williamson's new book ' All About Mia' which was my most anticipated book of 2017. Ever since I read The Art of Being Normal back in March Last Year, I have been dying to read more from this author and it was finally time. On the 31st of January, I had a minor operation which meant I was off college for the release on the 2nd of March. As you can imagine, I waited for hours for it to arrive and then ran upstairs and started reading immediately!
Obviously, I had some high expectations of this book due to my love of her debut. So I think I'll start with Characterisation. The characterisation was overall quite strong and she went into depth in most of the characters. Mia of course was our lead and she was excellently characterised. Her storyline was difficult and she had the highs and lows in her life. From the start, I assumed this character was black hearted and only cared about herself who lies to her parents and wants to make herself look like the tough one in the situation. But as I read on, I discovered that Mia was just putting on an act and was truly quite fragile and she just wanted an escape from her reality of being looked down upon. I really did develop a sense of feeling sorry for her. There was other characters who were also written well like Grace. The eldest of the 3 sisters. Really in my eyes she was a complete cow... that's the nicest way I could put it. But again, as the story went on, her real story came out. I also loved Graces boyfriend Sam and all of Mia's friend group as they were excellently written!
Now onto the Plot! It a book which shows the problems of 'Middle Child Syndrome' and how a child can break so easily and become someone who she is not. The book explores problems such as sibling problems, fights with friends and also... boys. As a male, it really let me see who girls think in these situations. This was all very exciting and I did enjoy the plot. The chapters always left me wanting more!
Now for the ending, I'm going to make this spoiler free, I did enjoy it. It was well fought out and again shows problems faced today in the YA Society. That's all I can say.
While reading, I was trying my best not to compare the book to The Art of Being Normal as I had to think of this book being from a completely new author who I had never read before. Of course I did have some expectations and the beginning as it was so different I was like... what is this. As I read on, I then finally had the realisation that these books were nothing alike and it didn't talk about the same problems. Both books were enjoyable but obviously I have a favourite out the 2 and I won't reveal that.
So my overall rating has to be a 5 Stars. It was enjoyable and the plot was exciting, I loved the cover as it was bright and created mystery, the characters were well thought out, I really felt a connection at times to the book and have been in similar situations and finally, it was an overall good read.
Thank you Lisa Williamson for another fantastic book which I will look back upon in the future. It also has a place on my favourites shelf in my room.
P.s She also reposted my photo on her Instagram!
